野三坡以“野”著称，原生态的自然环境孕育了异常丰富的动植物资源，据专家考察，野三坡共有种子植物92科713种，蕨类植物15科65种，药用植物更多达200余种，与植物相伴栖息的野生脊椎动物达184种，其中国家重点保护动物15种，如：褐马鸡、黑鹳等，堪称“天然植物园”和“野生动物王国”。

野三坡地处特殊的大地构造位置，雄踞紫荆关深断裂带北端之上，多起强烈的构造运动和岩浆活动造就了野三坡内容丰富、类型齐全、独具特色的地质遗迹。它是一部生动的地质教科书，又是一座天然的地质博物馆。被中国地质大学确定为科普基地。
